Fitness Kickboxing

Fitness kickboxing is an aerobic form of exercise which uses a variety of karate and boxing techniques,  often set to music in order enhance the cardiovascular endurance and respiratory capacity of it's participants.

This type of exercise is great for enhancing athletic performance levels by rythmically working the large muscle groups as well as toning  abdominal core muscles.

Fitness kickboxing classes are ideal  for anyone interested in improving their fitness and BMI (body mass index), by burning fat, toning muscle and improving the overal health of their heart, lungs and maintaining healthy blood glucose levels.

Fitness Kickboxing evolved from the sport of kickboxing which was popular in the later 1970's and 1980's.  Martial artists of various disciplines would compete in "full contact kickboxing " matches, often for prize money, thus labeling them "professional kickboxers".

These kickboxers would maintain a rigorous training routine which relied heavily on cardiovascular endurance exercises and core muscle strengthening.  Full contact kickboxing matches often resulted in serious injury to it's participants, making it  less than desirable for the average person.

The later 1990's and early 2000's saw a new era of "kickboxing"  as it became popularly referred to as  "fitness kickboxing".  Many former professional kickboxers and martial artists produced fitness video's and interactive fitness kickboxing TV shows promoting the health benefits of this type of training.

Fitness kickboxing modified technical skill, removed defensive & strategic aspects as well as the physical contact of sport kickboxing and simply  combined offensive skill training
("shadow boxing" type drills) with the
fitness training drills to produce this high energy, low risk activity.
